Volunteering

A few highlights from some of the volunteer events I’ve participated in. I’ve been a kitty socializer, Meals on Wheels assisting clients and delivering food, raised money for Leukemia and Heart foundations, and my previous employer provided and encouraged volunteering events. It was a great opportunity to collaborate, network, and help others in a meaningful way, such as making STEM kits for kids, painting murals for hospitals, and planting trees.

American Heart Association (AHA)

I became an assistant coach for the AHA’s Start Training 1/2 marathon team! The previous year I was a participant, and ran my first 1/2 marathon! I was able to run further than I thought, and met many supportive and passionate people who helped the cause in raising funds and awareness for heart disease and stroke. Together we can save a life!

Pinky Swear Organization

I organized a letter writing event for the Business Women’s Network, and we made cards for children with cancer. I tried a pop-up card technique, and the group made over a 100 cards. The organization distributes these cards to the children, and supports the families. Their mission is a reminder how every day is a gift, and that small gestures can make someone’s day.

Rise Against Hunger

As a co-lead for the Business Women’s Network, one of our annual volunteer events is Rise Against Hunger. We had 80 volunteers come together to help improve lives by making 10,000 nutritional meals to be shipped globally. We learned that for some of the recipients this is their only meal for the day. We made a big impact in helping fight hunger.
